Dr. Shapiro attended Franklin and Marshall College before completing his medical education at Boston University. Following many years of serving in the U.S. Public Health Service and achieving commendation, as well as extensive experience at the National Institutes of Health and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Dr. Shapiro came to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in 1990 where he held dual directorships of both the General Clinical Research Center, as well as the Osteoporosis Clinic. In 1997, Dr. Shapiro assumed his current position as the director of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Program.
