Brief Intro

Dr. Phelan Dr. Jim Phelan graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Tennessee in 1971. Upon graduating from dental school, he then received his postgraduate specialty training at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. In 1974, he was awarded a Master of Science in Dentistry with a specialty in Orthodontics. Dr. Phelan has long been active in professional, civic and church activities. He has served as president of the Arkansas Association of Orthodontists and the Pulaski County Dental Society as well. He has also chaired and served on numerous committees involving the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists. Years ago, Dr. Phelan chose Little Rock to be the home of his orthodontic practice. After practicing solo for 28 years, he was honored when his eldest son, Dr. Tom Phelan, joined Phelan Orthodontics in September 2002. When asked what he loves about being an orthodontist, Dr. Phelan replied, “I have loved doing what I do for all these years, but the real joy in what I do is not just straightening teeth. It is in getting to know and love all my families!”
