A two time NCAA class scholar athlete at Trinity College, Dr. Brown went on to complete Cardiovascular Surgical training at the University Colorado in 1994. After serving on CV Surgical faculty at the University of Colorado, Dr. Brown was recruited to the University of Maryland in 1999 where he worked for the past 11 years. Among his many accolades, publications and awards, he was the recipient of the Shock Trauma Hero Award in 2005.
Dr. Brown holds certificates from both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has performed over 3 thousand open heart operations including coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement, heart and lung transplants, and minimally invasive cardiothoracic operations. Dr. Brown has published 84 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals, given 20 presentations at national meetings, and written 15 book chapters. Dr. Brown's results from the procedures over the last 15 years have been exemplary exceeding average expectations, this assertion based on national cardiac surgery outcome data.
