Fun-loving, easy-going, dedicated clinician. These words aptly describe Dr. James M. Thomas, who wanted to find a career that would allow him to teach and mentor youth while nurturing his own love for the medical field. Dr. Thomas (some patients call him "DT") discovered pediatric dentistry, which has allowed him to make a difference in the lives of many children, particularly those with special needs or who are medically compromised. His caring personality and sense of humor are appreciated by patients and parents alike. Dr. Thomas is committed to creating a positive environment for all those who enter his office. He takes the time, effort and energy to make everyone feel welcome. Immediately after earning his dental degree (Doctor of Dental Surgery) from the University of Michigan in 2003, Dr. Thomas continued to pursue his education. He received his Master's of Science degree with certificate in pediatric dentistry in 2005, also from the University of Michigan. Dr. Thomas' intense and unique 30-month pediatric dental residency combined academics, clinical training and 18 solid months of hospital privileges and orthodontic training to prepare him for private practice. Dr. Thomas practiced at a prestigious pediatric dental office in South Tacoma before opening his own practice in Bellevue in 2007, where he services his patients 4 days per week. Dedicated to providing excellent care to all children, Dr. Thomas continues to practice in underprivileged communities outside of his office 1 day per week. Dr. Thomas is certified in the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Program. He served as an affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Thomas is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Washington State Dental Association, the Seattle-King County Dental Society, the Kenneth A. Easlick Society, and the Pacific Northwest Pediatric Dental Study Club. He is the current President of the Seattle Pediatric Dental Study Club, and Board Member and Treasurer of the Washington State Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. A native of Michigan, Dr. Thomas, his wife and two young children moved to the Seattle area to enjoy the amazing lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Thomas can now be found sipping Starbucks, hiking, biking or skiing. But rest assured, on a beautiful fall Saturday, he will still be singing "Hail to the Victors" for his Michigan Wolverines.
