James M. Szymanski, MD, MHA, is Director, Apheresis, Associate Director, Transfusion Medicine and Assistant Professor, Pathology at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Szymanski is deeply focused on immunohematology and clinical apheresis, constantly striving to advance patient care in these specialized disciplines. They are passionate about data-driven healthcare and specialize in clinical informatics and data science to leverage technology for medical innovation and improved clinical outcomes.After obtaining their Bachelor of General Studies in biology and public health at the University of Michigan in 2001, Dr. Syzmanski earned their Master of Healthcare Administration at the same institution in 2003. Following this, they earned their Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State School of Medicine in 2008.Dr. Szymanski centers their research on leveraging data science techniques to gain a deeper understanding of diseases, with the objective of enhancing patient outcomes and patient safety. Their work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and they have given poster presentations and invited lectures nationally.Dr. Szymanski is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology and is board certified in Clinical Pathology, Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking and Clinical Informatics. In 2016, they won the Leo M. Davidoff Society Teaching Award and in 2021, Dr Szymanski won the Outstanding Teaching Award from Montefiore Einstein’s Department of Pathology.
