Double-fellowship trained in pediatric and adult spine surgery, Dr. Hieu Ball currently treats complex conditions of the neck, mid-back, and low back. Dr. Ball specializes in motion preserving technologies, such as total (artificial) disc replacement in the low back and neck, as well as minimally invasive spine surgery for decompressions and fusions. His practice at the California Comprehensive Spine Institute is one of the national training sites that teaches other surgeons how to perform total disc replacements. Dr. Ball has an academic position as Clinical Instructor at the University of California, Davis. His medical training, residency and first pediatric fellowship, took place at Harvard Medical School, where he worked with leading spine specialists at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and Beth Israel Hospital. He then did his second fellowship in Los Angeles with Drs. Rick Delamarter and Edgar Dawson at St. John's Medical Center/UCLA. Currently, he treats children and adults with spinal disorders spanning the range of degenerative disease, congenital or acquired deformity conditions such as scoliosis, traumatic injuries, work-related injuries, tumors, and infections.
