Dr. Samowitz has special expertise in the areas of Men's Health, urinary disorders including frequency/urgency, incontinence, BPH, and Women's Health, as well as for male infertility. In his practice, he utilizes the best and most successful treatments for cancer, stones, prostate problems, and erectile dysfunction. He is a member of many professional organizations, including Mensa, the American Urological Association, certified by the American Board of Urology, and recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was Secretary and then President of the Greater Miami Urological Society.
Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Samowitz graduated Magna cum Laude from Duke University with a double major in Biology and Philosophy. His interest in Medical Ethics led him to establish Students To Advance Bioethics and organize the National Undergraduate Conference on Medical Ethics. He graduated in less than four years and participated in immunological research at the Harvard School of Public Health before beginning medical school.
After graduating the University of Connecticut Medical School, he began his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Chicago/Michael Reese Hospital. He went on to residency training at Stanford University in Anatomic Pathology. He completed his residency training in Urology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Samowitz electively chose to receive fellowship training in Female Urology, Incontinence and Voiding Disorders in Northern California before entering private practice in Davis, California. He practiced there for 4 years while a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of California. He moved to South Florida in 1996 to be closer to family, and has been practicing 15 years with the same group. Dr. Samowitz enjoys the interaction of teaching, and he is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology for Nova Southeastern College of Medicine, and he has presented at numerous professional medical meetings.
Dr. Samowitz is a recognized expert and innovator in the field of Male Fertility, having developed a minimally invasive procedure known as Percutaneous Extraction of Testicular Sperm (PETS) which is still used to successfully retrieve sperm from men without sperm in the ejaculate. He also developed a nutritional supplement to aid in fertility, available over the counter as Male Reproductive Complex. Dr. Samowitz takes great joy and pride in the legacy of hundreds of healthy children that are the result of his pioneering efforts.
He is one of the only Urologists nationally to be also Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. As a highly skilled surgeon in UroGynecology, he has been sought by the medical industry as a consultant to develop advanced techniques and devices, and as a regional trainer for new techniques and procedures. Other physicians value his expertise and experience in treating their patients, and he has trained many surgeons in the newest techniques for female pelvic prolapse and incontinence.
Dr. Samowitz is the Founder and Director of The Pelvic and Voiding Disorders Clinic. The mission of The Pelvic Clinic is to provide a comprehensive approach in the evaluation and management of patients with significant pelvic, urinary, and sexual symptoms through service, education and research. The Pelvic Clinic was developed for challenging cases that do not respond to conventional treatment and can be a forum to explore alternative, complementary and regenerative therapies. Currently, Dr. Samowitz is involved in research studies involving Botox injections for urinary incontinence and overactive bladder, treating bladder cancer with a new chemotherapeutic agent, and new procedures to treat male urinary incontinence.
