Harold S. Perlmutter, MD, FACS, a native of Brooklyn, New York, graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1960. Graduating near the top of his class at Chicago Medical School/University of Health Sciences, he went on to complete a prestigious medical internship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Perlmutters academic ophthalmology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine was followed by his appointment as clinical assistant instructor in ophthalmology. From 1968 to 1970, Dr. Perlmutter served in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of captain and holding the position of chief of the ophthalmology service at USAF Hospital, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. In July of 1970, he joined Eye Physicians of Sussex County and is a full attending physician at Newton Memorial Hospital. A multiple recipient of the Physicians Recognition Award for his conscientiousness in continuing education, Dr. Perlmutter is a Board-Certified fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons.
