After graduating in 1978 from Colgate University, Dr. Gerard Varlotta attended Medical School at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. From his Orthopedic Research Internship in Sweden to his training in Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington and NYU/Rusk Institute, Dr. Varlottas postdoctoral training is quite extensive. At the NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Varlotta was first appointed as the Clinical Instructor (1992 1998), moved to into a new role as a Clinical Assistant Professor (1998 2004) and then in 2004 was promoted to being a Clinical Associate Professor.In 1991, the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine presented Dr. Varlotta with the Resident Research Award. Then, in 2010, the Staten Island College, Dept. of Physical Therapy awarded Dr. Varlotta with the Educators Award. Dr. Varlotta is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine (Fellow), the Physiatric Association of Spine Sports Occupational Rehab, the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of PM&R (Fellow), the American Board of Pain Medicine (Fellow), the US Olympic Medical Committee, the Association of Ringside Physicians, as well as the Association of Ringside Physicians.
