Dr. Pilney is a graduate of Marquette Medical School and interned at Miller Hospital in St. Paul. He received his training in general surgery at the University of Minnesota and Veterans Administration Hospital. He served in the United States Army as a general surgeon at Fort Jackson Army Hospital. His plastic surgery training was at LDS Hospital Salt Lake City. He is board certified by the American Board of General Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
He entered private practice in St. Paul in 1967 and was the founder and president of Plastic Surgery Associates in St. Paul, MN.
He and his wife Joan have thirteen children.
