He first developed a love and passion for plastic and reconstructive surgery while working with his father-in-law, the late Dr. Blayne Hirsche of Provo. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 1999, where he also earned academic all-conference awards as a member of the football team, he then completed medical school at the University of Iowa.
