Brief Intro

Dr. Yarbrough received a bachelorâ€™s degree from Vanderbilt University and a medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed general surgery residency training at the world-famous Mayo Clinic and fellowship training in laparoscopy and bariatric surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in advanced laparoscopic techniques for minimally-invasive surgery on the gastrointestinal tract, including diseases of the esophagus and stomach, gall bladder and bile duct, solid organs, colon, rectal, endocrine and cancer surgery. In addition to general surgery, Dr. Yarbrough has special training in robotic-assisted surgery and expertise in the full breadth of laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Before joining the Samaritan Bariatric Program, Dr. Yarbrough was the Medical Director at the Oregon Bariatric Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield. He was the first surgeon to introduce the Lap Band procedure to the Willamette Valley in 2006, as well as being the first surgeon in Oregon to perfom a single incision Lap Band in 2009. Dr. Yarbrough also performed the first robotic-assisted bariatric procedure at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in 2010. Dr. Yarbrough earned the designation of Center of Excellence Surgeon by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery based on his high volume and excellent outcomes. Raised on a farm in Alabama, Dr. Yarbrough appreciates the outdoors and open spaces of Oregon. He and his wife, Sonya, enjoy camping and hiking with their three children, Adam, Emma and Aaron.
