Dr. Avila is a fellowship-trained urologist in the treatment of male fertility, vasectomy reversal and microsurgery. He also specializes in Robotics, treatments for female incontinence, hormone replacement therapy, Peyronie’s disease, erectile preservation and the medical and surgical treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Dr. Desiderio Avila Jr. graduated from Princeton University and then attended The University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, where he finished as one of its top graduates. He completed his general surgery and urological surgery training at Baylor College of Medicine, Scott Department of Urology, in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Avila then completed the prestigious and super-selective fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, Microsurgery, and Fertility at the Baylor Clinic in Houston. While at the Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Avila was active in research and teaching, and received several research and education excellence awards. He established himself as a leader and innovator in the practice of male infertility, sexuality as well as male renewal and restoration.
His commitment to providing personal, compassionate, comprehensive care to his patients combined with his diagnostic and surgical excellence has resulted in him being a much sought after solution for patients and fellow health professionals alike. It is this commitment to excellence in the patient care experience which prompted Dr. Avila to form part of Ironwood Urology, as the Division Leader for Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Sexuality and Men’s Restoration servicing the Southwest and Western United States.
Dr. Avila specializes in male infertility, and offers state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment of the infertile male. Dr. Avila works closely with all reproductive endocrinology practices located in the Phoenix/Tucson metropolitan areas as well as nationally, providing expert care for the male partner.
As an experienced microsurgeon, he specializes in vasectomy, microsurgical vasectomy reversal, microsurgical varicocele repair, and all sperm harvesting techniques including microdissection testicular sperm extraction, as well as electroejaculation and penile vibratory stimulation. Dr. Avila is among a select few microsurgeons nationally who can perform the technically challenging epididymovasostomy and microdissection testicular sperm extraction.
