Dr. Derek Yuan is a Board Certified Neurologist with expertise in Interventional Pain Management and Headache Medicine. Dr. Yuan completed his residency in Neurology at Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident in Patient Safety and Quality for two years. Dr. Yuan then became one of a handful of neurologists in the nation to complete a rigorous ACGME-accredited Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Florida.TREATMENTDr. Yuan uses a multidisciplinary approach to treat a wide range of chronic pain conditions including complex headache and facial pain, neuropathy, neck and back pain, musculoskeletal pain, cancer pain, and many other conditions. He is expertly trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities including minimally invasive interventional headache procedures, targeted spinal injections, peripheral nerve injections, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, as well as novel IV infusion protocols and medical management.EDUCATIONA Long Island native, Dr. Yuan graduated from Sachem High School North and received Bachelor of Science with highest honors from Honors College at Stony Brook University and an MD degree from University at Buffalo School of Medicine, where he was elected to Gold Humanism Honor Society and received Dr. Beth J. Wutz Memorial Award demonstrating a dedication to both intelligent and empathic care of both children and adults.EXPERIENCEDr. Yuan currently serves as a voluntary Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Stony Brook University Medical Center and lectures medical students and residents in headache and pain medicine. Dr. Yuan has published several peer-reviewed articles in reputable academic journals and has authored several textbook chapters in the newest edition of The Little Black Book Of Neurology. He also serves as a Peer Reviewer for clinical journals including Neurology® and *Neurology® *Clinical Practice.Dr. Yuan is an active member of several professional societies, including American Academy of Neurology, American Headache Society, American Interventional Headache Society and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Yuan is committed to bringing the latest therapeutic advancements in pain and headache medicine to the Long Island Community.Dr. Yuan is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
