Dr. Dobbs grew up in Brookville, Indiana, and attended Franklin County High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from IUPUI in Indianapolis, before attending Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Practice at Methodist Hospital before moving to Lawrenceburg as a founding partner in Lawrenceburg Family Medicine in 1988. Dr. Dobbs is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Dobbs has a strong interest in Christian missionary work, and he participated in medical mission trips to Haiti in 2000 and 2002. He and wife Kathy Holscher-Dobbs have three children -- Emily, Michael and Matthew. They are active in St. Lawrence Church and school.
“I grew up on a dairy farm north of Brookville. It was a good way to grow up and certainly taught me the value of hard work and how to put in long hours. However, when I was a senior in high school, my Dad suffered a badly fractured foot, and I had to do all of the milking (with assistance from my Grandpa) for tenweeks. Cows have to be milked twice a day, every day, and that experience convinced me that I did not want to be a dairy farmer. I had been thinking about medicine since I was in elementary school. I wanted to help people, and I liked the intellectual challenge as well as the opportunity to be my own boss. My father was the youngest of nine children and the first in his family to graduate from high school. He always stressed the value of education and I’m grateful that it has given me the chance to realize my dream of being a family doctor. I believe it is the best job in medicine because of the relationships you develop with long-term patients. Over my 20 years of practice in Dearborn County, those relationships have been what I have most enjoyed.â€
What you may not know …
Dr. Dobbs and his family live on a 15-acre “farm†between Aurora and Dillsboro. Wife Kathy and daughter Emily take care of their eleven horses, three dogs and six cats. Reading history is relaxation for him … ask him about the Peloponnesian Wars, or the Edict of Nantes.
