Dr. Cuong "Alex" Nguyen is an NGPG minimally invasive general surgeon and bariatric surgeon. He was the first surgeon to perform the robotic gastric bypass in Georgia and was recently recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an internationally recognized patient safety organization, as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery and Hernia Surgery. Northeast Georgia Medical Center was also the first hospital in Georgia to receive accreditation as an SRC Center of Excellence in both Robotic Surgery and Hernia Surgery. Dr. Nguyen is recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic, Hernia and Minimally Invasive Surgery.Dr. Nguyen serves the surrounding communities of Northeast Georgia from offices in Gainesville and Braselton. He is board-certified in general surgery and is fellowship-trained in robotic, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery. Dr. Nguyen has provided excellent healthcare for patients in this area since 2008. He is an active fellow of the American College of Surgeons and fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. For the bariatric population, he enjoys working with patients to bring them into the place of health they need and want to be. Dr. Nguyen performs primary bariatric procedures as well as complicated revisional surgeries in cases where patients have had previously failed procedures in the past. Additional key interest areas of surgery include anti-reflux surgery as well as complicated abdominal wall hernias. He provides surgical training and education of robotic surgery to all levels of surgeons both domestically and internationally. Dr. Nguyen is also heavily involved in training future physician leaders in his role as the Associate Program Director of the NGMC Graduate Medical Education for General Surgery.
