Dr. Dawson is a general surgeon who treats disease with surgical techniques. He works closely with other physicians to detect conditions that would benefit from a surgical procedure. He likes taking complicated, seemingly unsolvable problems, then gathering information to figure things out. This leads him to ways to help his patients medically or surgically. He encourages patients to question what they see and hear about medical advice and to be analytical about what their body is telling them. They should be active participants in their health. The types of surgery he often performs:· Breast cancer· Colon cancer· Lung cancer & chest surgery· Vascular surgery and endovascular surgery· Laser varicose vein surgery Dr. Dawson graduated from the University of Illinois with high honors in chemical engineering. From there, he chose to attend University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago, because it was one of the best and the largest. He completed his residency at Detroit General Hospital/Wayne State University. He enjoyed participating in many trauma and vascular surgery procedures. He is happy to be practicing here with what he considers the best physicians and staff in the state. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Detroit Surgical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, American College of Surgeons and President’s Advisory Committee on Health Care Reform. He is also a volunteer with the Will-Grundy Free Clinic and an honorary member of Sociedad Boliviana de Cirugia. He is formerly the chairman of Provena St. Joseph Medical Center’s Department of Surgery and former trauma director. He was the Renal Network "Champion Surgeon" recipient for 2007 and has received a humanitarian award from the Bolivian government in Sucre in 2007.
