Brief Intro

Dr. Patterson is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, and practiced in rural Southwestern Pennsylvania for 10 years. In 1998, he and his wife, Betsy, decided to re-locate to Spartanburg, in order to join Network Geriatric Services, a group dedicated to providing state of the art care to seniors. Through Network Geriatric Services Dr. Patterson currently serves as the medical director of eight nursing homes in the Greenville area, and is the attending physician for nursing homes in Greenville and Inman, SC. In 2003, %u201CDr. P%u201D, as he is known in his nursing homes, became one of only nine physicians in South Carolina to become board certified in Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine. In 2004, Dr. Patterson earned Board Certification in the subspecialty of Pain Medicine, through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Serving on the Board of the American Medical Directors Association Foundation since 2003, Dr. Patterson is dedicated to improving the care of long-term care residents through research and education. His research projects include use of feeding tubes and the epidemiology of vitamin B12 deficiency. He serves as faculty for the AMDA Foundation%u2019s Research Network and as the Director of Research for NGS . Following his five years as medical director of VistaCare hospice, %u201CDr. P.%u201D remains an independent consultant for area hospices. In his %u201Cspare time%u201D, Dr. Patterson enjoys tinkering with home electronics, windsurfing, and home improvement projects. %u201CDr. P%u201D and Betsy reside in Inman, SC along with their assortment of adopted/rescued dogs and cats. He is often accompanied on rounds by %u201CLarry%u201D, his designated therapy dog.
