Background I received a B.A. from Columbia University in Comparative Literature while doing my pre-medical studies. I got my MD in the windy city, Chicago, at Rush University and then returned to NYC for my surgical training. Although I am a New Yorker and city dweller to the core, I knew when I was done with my training that I did not want to practice medicine in New York City. I wanted a multi-specialty group practice in which I would be able to devote my time taking care of my patients and not spend it trying to figure out how to work the insurance system. Nothing like Kaiser Permanente exists in New York. I was attracted to Kaiser Permanente because of the complete healthcare package the organization provides for our patients with integration of the clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and all the other services a person needs to thrive. I joined Kaiser Permanente San Francisco in 1990 and transferred up to Santa Rosa in 2004, happily trading in the fog for warm, sunny summer days. My expertise is in the management of sinus disease, surgical treatment of thyroid/parathyroid disease and head and neck cancer. Roles and Responsibilities I have an administrative role in the medical center. I serve as Chief of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and I am Chairman of the Health Information Management Committee.
