I grew up in Snohomish and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1992. I received my bachelor's degree in European Studies with an emphasis in Russian from Seattle Pacific University in 1997. During college, I did laboratory research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and at Benaroya Research Center at Virginia Mason. I received my M.D. from Saint Louis University in 2002. I then completed my general surgical training in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hospital of St. Raphael. I completed a burn and wound surgery fellowship at Nassau University Medical Center in 2008, and I completed plastic and reconstructive surgery training there in 2010.
