Dr. Van Dommelen obtained his pre-medical education at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan for his medical education and completed his orthopaedic residency at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Van Dommelen went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the University Hospital, London, Ontario, Canada. He has been providing orthopaedic care in the Sheboygan area since 1987.
