Brief Intro

Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) promotes atherosclerosis and other inflammatory diseases. Platelet-derived growth factor B form (PDGF-B) and angiotensin II (Ang II) are key regulators of MCP-1 in smooth muscle cells (SMC) which make a great contribution to the development of atherosclerosis. Complete insight into the mechanisms by which PDGF-B and Ang II regulate stability of MCP-1 mRNA may provide a better approach to develop an efficient drug to control MCP-1, thus to control inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis. Translational projects bridge the mechanism study and drug development will be proposed and carried out as more details of the mechanisms are revealed.
