It was a lifelong dream for Dr. Beth Collins to become a surgeon. From the time she was a little girl growing up in Hamden CT, she watched her father, a well-respected general surgeon in the community, and she knew that was what she wanted to do.Her pathway led her from undergraduate study at Emory University in Atlanta to medical school in Dublin Ireland, where she graduated Cum Laude in the top ten out of over 200 students. Following medical school, Dr. Collins returned to complete a general surgery residency in North Carolina after which she completed her board certification in this field. But that wasn’t enough for Dr. Collins. While in her residency, she developed a passion for solving complex surgical problems and loved the technical as well as artistic nature of the field of plastic surgery. She was accepted back to her alma mater, Emory University, which happens to be one of the nation’s top plastic surgery programs. After completing three additional years of fellowship in plastic surgery, she went on to do an additional specialty fellowship year with Dr. John McCraw, who is widely known in the plastic surgery community as one of the grandfathers of the field. During her fellowships, Dr. Collins was the recipient of the Lee Harvey Hendricks prize for outstanding clinical research in breast reconstruction and body contouring surgery. Once she graduated, she went on to complete the rigorous requirements of board certification by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.Dr. Collins looks forward to welcoming the community to her new Mystic office. She has spent the past year updating and renovating the beautiful space that used to be “Coastal Dermatology” to give a serene and upscale environment for each of her patients. For those who are closer to Guilford, our office will remain open there as well.To learn more about the practice, follow us on Facebook or Instagram @drbethcollins or browse our website BethCollinsMD.com.
