Dr. Basim Al-Khafaji graduated from Baghdad University, College of Medicine ranking 3rd on his class (summa cum laude equivalent), and completed his Anatomic Pathology Residency at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, in addition to two one-year accredited fellowships at the internationally acclaimed University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to include one in Oncologic Surgical Pathology, and the other in Cytopathology.
Prior to joining St. John Hospital & Medical Center, Dr. Al-Khafaji was an Assistant Professor of Pathology, and Staff Pathologist at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Currently, he is the Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology at Wayne State University, School of Medicine.
He is the current Director of the Pathology Residency Program at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Al-Khafaji is involved in several local, national, and international committees in the areas of Pathology Practice and Education. Dr. Al-Khafaji has consistently been listed by the Consumer's Research Counsel of America as one of the top physicians in his field of expertise. His expertise is in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology.
Dr. Al-Khafaji's expertise and special interest is in the areas of Cytopathology, Oncologic Surgical Pathology with emphasis on Gynecological, Genitourinary, and Head & Neck Pathology.
