Dr. Asim Pati earned his basic medical degree in Calcutta, India in 1980. After his initial training in India, he went to the United Kingdom for further studies. He went through his residency and fellowship programs in Internal Medicine/Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation in several hospitals and medical schools in the United Kingdom including Westminster hospital Medical School, London, Northwick Hospital, Harrow and St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London. He received his certification with the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom in 1986.
Subsequently, in 1993, Dr. Pati joined as faculty at Richland Memorial Hospital at the University of South Carolina. He was appointed as associate professor in the Department of Medicine and as Director of the Stem Cell Transplant program in Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina. During this period, he managed patients with hematologic/oncologic problems as well as patients undergoing bone marrow/stem cell transplant. He was also involved in clinical research and teaching. He received his board certification in medicine in 1995 and hematology in 1996.
Dr. Pati joined Palmetto Hematology Oncology in 1997 and started the Stem Cell Transplant Program in Spartanburg in 1997. He is involved in managing patients with hematologic/oncologic problems as well as those undergoing high-dose chemotherapy and autologous blood stem cell transplant. As a member of the team of physicians of Palmetto Hematology Oncology, he is involved in CCOP research program and also participates in the clinical research studies of several other organizations, including M. D. Anderson Hospital, Minnie Pearl and Wake Forest University.
Dr. Pati is married and has one son. He enjoys tennis, reading and classical music.
