Asha Iyer, M.D., is a board-certified general neurosurgeon who specializes in complex spinal disorders with an emphasis on neck and back pain in degenerative and traumatic disorders of the spine.
In addition, Dr. Iyer also specializes in complex degenerative and traumatic spinal disorders. Though Dr. Iyer is an expert in minimally invasive approaches to the treatment of spinal disease, degenerative spine conditions and herniated discs. She also has a special interest in more advanced spinal disorders requiring cervical disc replacement and the latest spinal fusion techniques.
Complementing her surgical expertise, Dr. Iyer has a background of research investigating a diverse range of tools in the treatment of patients with spinal cord injury, from molecular to brain-machine interface technologies. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed articles and publications including World Neurosurgery, Journal of Vision, Journal of Neuroscience, Society for Neurosciences and more. Dr. Iyer has received various academic honors including letters of distinction for psychopathology, pathology, internal medicine and ambulatory medicine.
As part of the multidisciplinary team at the Brain and Spine Tumor Program at JFK University Medical Center, Dr. Iyer works alongside neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical neuro-oncologists, neuro-pathologists, and neuro-radiologists utilizing innovative new treatments to provide comprehensive patient and family-centered care.
The Spine Care Program at JFK University Medical Center treats all aspects of spinal cord injury and related complications. Here, Dr. Iyer joins a team of spine specialists collaborating with neurosurgeons, pain medicine physicians, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists and radiologists to determine the most appropriate plan of care for patients and their families.
