Dr. Giritsky grew up in Pasadena, California. He attended Stanford University and graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences. He attended the Stanford School of Medicine where he earned his M.D. degree in 1972. He served a year of Internship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and then returned to Stanford University Medical Center where he completed training in general,vascular, transplant, and cardiac and thoracic surgery. In 1980 he joined with Dr. Donald Buehler in cardiac surgery practice at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. Dr. Giritsky has specialty board certification by the American Board of Surgery, and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a Member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Western Thoracic Surgical Association. He served as Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital 1987-1991, Scripps Institutes of Science and Medicine Cardiology Services Board 1991-1995, ScrippsHealth Cardiac Services Strategic Steering Group 1995-1998, and ScrippsHealth Systems of Excellence Cardiac Surgery Physician Leader 1999-2000.
