Dr. A. Florentina Taylor is board-certified in pediatrics and specializes in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of childhood illness. She received her medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua and pediatric training at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando, Florida. Prior to her pediatric residency, Dr. Taylor served as a post-doctoral fellow and staff scientist. She was part of a team conducting groundbreaking cardiopulmonary studies at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in collaboration with researchers from the United States Air Force Wilford Hall Medical Center (Lackland Air Force Base). Dr. Taylor participated in the development of a novel high frequency ventilator for premature newborns. She has co-authored numerous articles in professional journals and was principal investigator for a major research grant from the American Heart Association. A mother of two children, Dr. Taylor readily understands the concerns of all parents and enjoys counseling expectant and new mothers. She has a particular interest in the area of prevention of asthma and obesity in children and adolescents. Dr. Taylor is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Florida chapter of the Academy. She also serves as a pediatrics clerkship faculty member for the Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota. Dr. Taylor has been actively involved in our community as a board member of the Healthy Start Coalition of Manatee County and the American Red Cross, Manatee chapter.
